Secrets

of the Old Town

The medieval quarter, which was officially declared a monumental site in 1997, is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in the north of the peninsula. A visit to the Cathedral of Santa María, where Kent Follett was inspired to write “A World Without End”, the second part of the famous “The Pillars of the Earth”, is a must. But the old quarter hides many other gems that make a stroll through its cobbled streets well worth it: the Bibat Museum (Fournier Playing Card Museum and Archaeology Museum), the Casa del Cordón, El Portalón (the monumental gate), the Villa Suso Palace, etc.

Gastronomy

Diversity on the Plate

And on top of all this, the diversity and quality of food and wine on offer is such that we were named Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2014. Forget fast food, here you will find options suitable for all tastes: restaurants, bars where you can walk the famous pintxo/pote route, carveries, cider houses…

Álava

Where nature and tradition meet

If time is on your side, Alava has many wonderful places to visit: 5 natural parks, 2 blue flag “beaches” in the Landa and Garaio reservoirs, the Salt Valley in Salinas de Añana, the Santa Catalina Botanical Gardens in Trespuentes, Starlight, the world’s first starlight park, and of course, La Rioja Alavesa, where you can visit famous wineries and maybe even take part in the grape harvest.
